Empowering Success through Effective Project Management

Overview

The transit provider for a large Canadian city faced a unique challenge. This transit provider, with a staff of more than 8,000 people, works closely with a specialized law enforcement organization, and the law enforcement organization required development of their cyber security posture. The law enforcement update was required to meet the guidelines of both national policing and the city’s transit provider, meaning that stakeholder management across the organizations was a critical concern, along with a need to navigate requirements in two very different corporate cultures: law enforcement, and government.

Development of a Plan

In order to successfully upgrade the law enforcement organization’s cybersecurity posture, they required external staffing to fill key project positions. The project staff were required to meet specific, and rare, requirements, including cultural fit in both law enforcement and government environments, ability to receive law enforcement security clearance, and a deep knowledge of both cybersecurity and project management.

Virthym partnered with the transit provider’s staffing agency to locate the specialized skillsets required for these difficult to fill positions.

We Execute the Plan

Working with the transit provider, and the transit provider’s staffing agency, Virthym sought a senior project manager and business analyst to fill out the project team. Owing to the highly specific position requirements, Virthym’s specialized skills and experience were necessary to locate and fill the positions. This initiative was further time constrained by budgetary structure within the transit organization

Virthym’s large network, and targeted approach, enabled us to rapidly locate two ideal candidates that had the expertise and cultural fit required. Working with both the transit organization and their staffing agency, Virthym was quickly able to fill both positions.

Outcomes

The two resources provided by Virthym were able to rapidly receive their security clearance and engage in the cybersecurity projects. By leaning hard into both projects, and quickly building strong relationships with existing staff, the senior project manager and business analyst were able to generate rapid progress on both projects.
